The Tennessee offense showed up early on Sunday vs. Evansville

But the Volunteers fans didn’t hesitate to show up to the park and their team showed up early as well. Tennessee jumped out to a 5-1 lead in Game 3 in the second inning, thanks to the Vols bats getting hot and in a big way. In the bottom of the second, they blasted back-to-back home runs courtesy of Dean Curley and Dalton Bargo.

Evansville got on the board first on Sunday, scoring one run in the top of the first. But it didn’t take long for the Volunteers to counter. Tennessee slugger Christian Moore did what he’s done so many times over the years–send one deep into the seats. The solo shot tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.

The winner of Sunday’s game will officially punch their tickets to Omaha to the 2024 College World Series and the loser of Game 3 will have their season officially ended. Tennessee is of course, the top overall seed in the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament. They have an overall record of 54-12 coming into Sunday’s matchup. The Evansville Purple Aces currently sit at 39-25 overall on the 2024 campaign.

In Game 2, Evansville trailed Tennessee 4-0 in the top of the second innings. But the Purple Aces managed to rally, coming away with a 10-8 victory in Knoxville. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Evansville got the insurance runs they needed, when Kip Fougerousse hit a two-run blast to center field. That made it 10-5, Purple Aces. Earlier in the sixth, they also got a two-run blast from Brendan Hord, giving Evansville an 8-5 edge. The Game 2 victory tied the series up at 1-1.
