Hendon Hooker put up another phenomenal performance in Tennessee’s 38-33 win over the Florida Gators on Saturday. However, it didn’t come without adversity. Hooker took a hit towards the end of the first half that had him grabbing around his collar and shoulder until half. He never came out, though, as he led the Volunteers on a scoring drive to end the first half and more success in the second half.

Hooker talked about the injury during media after the game. He said it’s all part of football and that pushing himself through it for his teammates at that moment is something that gives him pride.

“It’s ups and downs, aches and pains throughout the game of football. It’s a physical game,” said Hooker. “Persevering through that is something I pride myself in. Just being a warrior and competing for my brothers.”

Hooker put up yet another highly efficient statline in Tennessee’s first win of the conference season. He completed 78.6% of his passes for 349 yards and two touchdowns. Hooker also had his best rushing day as a Vol with 112 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

There was no drop-off from Hooker after he was banged up. He said wasn’t going to allow himself to miss a step because the hits, physicality, and injuries all come with being a football player.

“No (it didn’t change how I played). Not at all. It’s part of the game,” said Hooker. “You’re gonna get hit hard, you’re gonna be banged up. If you can go, you can go. If you can’t, you can’t.”

While the Volunteer faithful have loved him for his play, this took it to a whole new level with the grit and toughness he showed in a major win for the program. Considering how he finished off the win against the Gators, Hooker should continue to be all clear for Tennessee moving forward as they head into next weekend’s matchup at LSU.
