It would be easy for quarterbacks to have some amount of animosity toward one another. After all, only one quarterback can be the starter, which means only one quarterback can consistently play. It’s not like other position groups, where multiple players rotate in. Still, at Tennessee, Hendon Hooker and backup quarterback Joe Milton are close.

Hendon Hooker explained their relationship to the media.

“We talk every day,” Hendon Hooker explained. “We’re roommates. So, I mean, it’s inevitable that we talk every day.”

“Me and him just bouncing ideas and football thoughts, and then real life thoughts. You know, he comes to me for advice. I go to him for advice. Whether it’s on the field or off the field, really just two peas in a pod.”

One unique thing about Hendon Hooker and Joe Milton’s relationship is that they both came to Tennessee as transfer quarterbacks. Originally, in 2021, Josh Heupel even started Milton over Hooker. Now that the job is Hooker’s, it would be easy to be resentful there. However, there isn’t any in this relationship.

“Honestly, I’m a huge Joe Milton fan. When he goes out there and he’s showing that rocket arm off, it’s amazing. So, you can’t do anything but stand there in awe.”

“Very blessed to be able to be able to go out there and set the goals for ourselves earlier this season, and I’m being able to go and detect those goals by being the number one offense in those regards, yards and points. That’s what we strive to do. We strive to get six out of every drive.”
