Hendon Hooker reveals his pride in Tennessee's offensive standing nationally

Much of Tennessee’s success this season has come down to quarterback Hendon Hooker and the explosive offense that head coach Josh Heupel has produced. As it stands now, Tennessee is first in FBS in scoring offense at 47.4 points per game. The Volunteers are also first in total offense, with 543.7 yards per game.

While speaking to the media, Hendon Hooker was asked about the pride that he has in Tennessee’s offensive numbers as a team, rather than individual stats.

“That’s where all the pride is,” Hendon Hooker said. “It’s about the team. It’s not about individual accolades. That’ll come with the success of the team. So, we’re not really worried about any individual accolades.”

“Very blessed to be able to be able to go out there and set the goals for ourselves earlier this season, and I’m being able to go and detect those goals by being the number one offense in those regards, yards and points. That’s what we strive to do. We strive to get six out of every drive.”

Tennessee is currently fifth in the College Football Playoff rankings. Because two teams ahead of the Volunteers (Michigan and Ohio State) still play each other, everyone knows at least one team ahead of Tennessee will lose. This gives Tennessee a great chance to make the Playoff on the back of its offense.

For his part, Hendon Hooker is one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. According to the VegasInsider odds, Hooker currently has the second-best odds at +368. He’s only behind CJ Stroud, the Ohio State quarterback.

Hendon Hooker on being in the Heisman conversation

Winning the Heisman Trophy is largely seen as the highest individual honor in college football. Hendon Hooker knows that being in the conversation is a big deal, describing himself as “blessed” to be in it.

“I’m very appreciative of that, very blessed to be in that situation, but I wouldn’t be in any of that without my teammates and coaches and support system. Really just concentrating on 1-0 every week. When someone approaches me, I really have the same answer, just win ball games. Any accolade that comes with that is cool,” Hendon Hooker said.

“Just making sure that we’re winning ball games, and continuing to build a brotherhood here at Tennessee is what I’m focused on”
