This season for Hendon Hooker and the Tennessee Volunteers has been filled with one challenge after another. However, this Saturday, the Heisman Trophy front-runner will lead his team into battle against what will be arguably their most formidable challenge yet. Tennessee will take on the Georgia Bulldogs in a matchup of the top two teams in the SEC and in the nation. As Volunteers begin their preparations for Saturday’s colossal matchup, Hooker shared his thoughts on Georgia’s defense.
“They are very coachable, as you can see,” said Hooker. “They have mastered schemes that have been at Georgia for years to come. They play extremely hard and fly to the ball, (and are) instinctive.
“I’m looking forward to going out there and competing at a high level.”

Hooker has yet to face a defense like Georgia’s this season. However, the Bulldogs have yet to encounter a quarterback like Hooker. The senior from Greensboro, NC, has not been slowed down, much less stopped throughout the season. Through eight games, Hooker has completed 71.2 percent of his passes, completing 156 of his 219 attempts. He has thrown for 2,338 yards with 21 touchdowns and just one interception.
While Georgia’s defense is still formidable, they have not been as dominant as last season. In 2021 Georgia’s most points allowed in the regular season came against Tennessee in week 11 when they gave up 17. They did allow 41 points to Alabama in the SEC championship game. But Georgia made up for that in their College Football Playoffs championship game rematch, allowing just 18 points to the Crimson Tide.

This season Georgia has already given up 20-plus points in three games. That includes a season-high of 22 points to both Kent State and a narrow 26-22 victory over the Missouri Tigers. If they bring that level of defense on Saturday when they take on Tennessee, expect Hooker to have another Heisman-worthy performance.
Hooker kept it all bussiness when adressing the Bulldogs defense. On Saturday, it will be personal. The game wil air on CBS at 2:30PM CT from Sanford Stadium in Athens, GA. Georgia is favorited to win and ESPN’s matchup predictor gives them a 74.9 percent chance of victory.
