Karen Weekly has plenty of praise to spread around, as Tennessee currently leads Alabama by a score of 6-2 at the Women’s College World Series.

First, starting pitcher Ashley Rogers has been on her game following a rocky start to the game, allowing just two runs over four innings thus far, striking out two members of the Crimson Tide. As the game progresses, Weekly is making sure to keep an eye on her, and keep Rogers fresh throughout the showdown.

“Just asking her how she’s feeling. Talking about her mental process and her mental cues as she’s out there,” explained Weekly. “She’s just giving us a gutsy performance.”

Additionally, Weekly was enthusiastic about how outfielder Jamison Brockenbrough has hit thus far, as she ripped a two-run home run that opened up the game for the Volunteers earlier in the game. Prior in the season, Weekly had Brockenbrough work on her slap-hitting, which has helped the outfielder with her all-around game ever since.

“Helped her just to see the ball for awhile. Felt like she was kind of getting out of her zone and not really having a good plan,” added the Tennessee skipper. “She got back on track and when she swings loose, she’s pretty exciting.”

It’s been a great start to the game against Alabama for Tennessee, but Karen Weekly knows how fast that can change. She’s hoping the Volunteers can hold on for the victory over the Crimson Tide.
