The Tennessee women’s basketball team will don special uniforms Sunday against Kentucky in honor of late coach Pat Summitt. The Lady Volunteers took to Twitter to reveal the jerseys hours before the contest.

The uniforms are the traditional white and orange with checkered shorts. Inscribed on the jersey in purple lettering is the message “We back Pat.” The shorts feature simply “Pat,” as well as “Lady Volunteers” written in purple over the Tennessee logo.

Sunday’s game against Kentucky is part of the SEC’s 11th annual “We Back Pat” Week. From Jan. 16-23 teams in the conference will have “We Back Pat” games of their own in attempt to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. Donations will be made to the Pat Summitt Foundation Fund, launched in 2011 following the coach’s diagnosis with early-onset dementia, Alzheimer’s type, at age 59.

Summitt passed away in 2016 following a nearly five-year battle with Alzheimer’s. She left a lasting mark on not only the University of Tennessee, but college basketball as a whole.

Summitt coached the Lady Volunteers for just shy of 40 years from 1974-2012. During that span, she won eight national championships, the third-highest total of any college basketball coach men’s or women’s. Tennessee appeared in the NCAA Tournament every season from 1982 until her retirement, making the Final Four an unprecedented 18 times. She finished her career with 1,098 wins, a number that ranks third all-time among women’s college basketball coaches.

Tennessee has remained a fixture atop the women’s college basketball world since Summitt’s retirement. This season the Lady Volunteers are ranked No. 5 after a 16-1 start. Star guard Jordan Horston leads the team scoring (15.5 ppg), rebounding (9.9 rpg), assists (3.9 apg) and steals (1.5 spg).

The Lady Volunteers have yet to lose a game in SEC play, sitting at 5-0. Tennessee will look to keep that success up Sunday while wearing its special uniforms in honor of Pat Summitt.
