Nico Iamaleava, Joe Milton reveal what they plan to work on during summer ahead

Tennessee quarterbacks Nico Iamaleava and Joe Milton each emerged from spring camp having improved their standings within the team and from the view of outsiders.

Iamaleava, the early enrollee and quarterback of the future, mixed in well with his new teammates and group. Milton, the expected QB1 come opening day, established himself as someone who could keep the train moving after a successful 2022 season that turned the tides of the Volunteers program.

But the two know there is still along time until the start of the season, which means there is a lot of time to work.

After the Tennessee spring game last month, Milton and Iamaleava both addressed what they plan on working on between the end of the spring and when the team reconvines over the summer.

“Just my game overall anything can be cleaned up,” Milton said. “It can go from mental, the physically of stuff, just everything. Just improve so Tennessee can be Tennessee.”

“Always want to get better anytime you have some offseason breaks or anything like that,” Iamaleava said. “Really just fixing my mechanics a bit more to this offense. I think that was a big jump for me was getting all the mechanics down in this offense. Go back home and lock in on that stuff and I’ll be fine.”

Nico Iamaleava and Joe Milton have a good relationship

While Nico Iamaleava has entered Tennessee with very high expectations, Volquest’s Brent Hubbs said he hasn’t come in with any demands for the coaching staff.

He talked on On3 Roundtable about the dynamic between the two quarterbacks and how it it set up to help Iamaleava in the future.

“He’s settling in he wants to sit back and learn and learn a lot from Joe. They have spent a ton of time together in the complex, a ton of time together out of the complex going over things, because he’s being a sponge right now, which is what you want a freshman to be,” Hubbs said. “And I think it’s a great spot for him because he does not have to be the guy from day one.”

“And he can learn and grow under Joe Milton as the season goes along. It’s exactly what you want a young quarterback to be, and I think most importantly, the young quarterback’s got to accept that and I think Nico has to this point for sure.”
