Hendon Hooker shares joy of receiving note from young fan after game

Hendon Hooker has produced many special moments on the field, helping Tennessee get as high as No. 3 in the country. An upset win over Alabama set Knoxville on fire, bringing the program back into the national spotlight. The journey is far from over too, with plenty still ahead of the Volunteers.

Fans are noticing the impact Hooker is having on Tennessee, especially the younger ones. Hooker was able to create another special moment with one after Saturday’s win against UT-Martin, where a kid handed him a note. A picture of Hooker was drawn on there as well, with the young fan giving the Vols quarterback a gift.

Hooker was asked about the moment during his postgame press conference, saying “it’s a blessing” to have those kinds of moments. The quarterback has always wanted to make an impact on his community, whether it’s Knoxville, back when he was at Virginia Tech, or at home in Greensboro, North Carolina.

“It’s a blessing,” Hooker said. “One of the things I want to do is be a positive light in my community of people’s lives. For me to receive a note, from a kid that’s admiring me or looking up to me — it’s a blessing. Hopefully, I’m doing what he wants to do one day and just showing him that anything is possible and that you can do anything when you put the hard work in.”

Hooker has done plenty on the field to help out the community, having a perfect record heading into Week 9 of the college football season. Two huge SEC East matchups will take place in as many weeks, with Kentucky in Knoxville on Saturday and Tennessee traveling to Athens the following Saturday to face Georgia.

Two more wins and Hooker could be leading the Vols to the program’s first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.

But the moment Hooker shared with the fan is not reliant on wins and losses. It’s something both parties will remember forever, showing how big of an impact college football has on communities.

Plenty of young fans will forever remember this Tennessee season and what Hooker has been able to do, no matter the results down the stretch.
