Ramel Keyton recalls highlight play in win vs Florida
Late in the second quarter of the Tennessee–Florida game on Saturday, Vols wide receiver Ramel Keyton made one of the best catches of the 2022 season, when he layed out full extension to reel in a 43-yard catch from Hendon Hooker. He left his feet, fully extended his arms, and caught the ball right in his hands before coming crashing back down to the turf. It was without a doubt, one of the best plays of the game. In his press conference on Wednesday, Keyton recalled the spectacular grab in Tennessee’s 38-33 win over their rival.
“I watched it a lot but going through the play, I got a clean release, it was a speed release….When the ball was in the air, I wasn’t really trying to dive for it. I was trying to run under it. But it kinda seemed like the flight of the ball was gonna go far. So I just, like, kinda just stretched out for it a little bit. I catch a lot of deep balls after practice over the summer and all of that. So, you can kind of tell the flight of the ball…Just reppin’ that. And just catching the ball and looking it in…[in practice],” Keyton said.
Keyton then discussed how thankful he was for being able to have the opportunity to make such a big catch on such a big stage. Against Florida, he hauled in three catches for 69 receiving yards.

“It was a good feeling. I thank God every single day even when things are going bad. He just made the opportunity for me to showcase what I can do. I had a single ball like that in Georgia. But, during that time period I wasn’t really locked in with God. Locked in on the field. And things like that. So, I didn’t make that play. So, I just had to readjust and the opportunity came this time. And I made it. So I’m thankful for that,” Keyton said.
This season, he’s hauled in eight catches for 183 receiving yards and a touchdown for the Volunteers. Tennessee fans are hoping he has plenty more spectacular grabs this season, but it sure will be tough to top that one.
