Saturday’s matchup will be the first time Tennessee and LSU have faced off as top-25 opponents since 2007. The Volunteers head into this matchup ranked in the top 10 after an impressive series of victories in their first five games for a 5-0 record. As for LSU, they enter into the game with a 4-1, with their lone loss coming at the hands of the Florida State Seminoles in Week 1.
As the status quo goes for SEC conference play, LSU will be one of many tough opponents Tennessee will take on over the course of this season. But this is precisely the kind of challenge the Volunteers will need to overcome, especially if they want to be crowned kings of the SEC at the end of the season.

Heupel provides update on Tennessee’s Cedric Tillman following procedure
is currently down its top receiver in Cedric Tillman. The Vols’ leading receiver in 2021 has missed multiple weeks with an ankle injury and recently had a “tightrope” procedure to expedite his recovery. Following the small surgery, Tillman is back to moving around and may be getting close to a return.
At his Monday press conference this week, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel addressed Tillman and his timetable for a return:
“He was limited but moved around a little bit today. We will see where he’s at. He had the surgery to speed up the recovery process,” Josh Heupel shared on the star wideout. Then added that “Tillman has to show this week he can be a functional player in order to get on the field.”
