Late in the game against Tennessee, Alabama had to start fouling. It’s a desperate move and, normally, you want to foul a poor free throw shooter. The Crimson Tide weren’t able to do that, though, often putting guard Santiago Vescovi on the free throw line.

A career 80.1% free throw shooter, Vescovi explained his mindset from the free throw line late in the Alabama game.

“Not many things,” Santiago Vescovi said. “Just, I can’t say or use the word, but make a freaking free throw was what was going through my head at that point.”

Tennessee had lost its previous two games to Missouri and Vanderbilt by one point each. In both of those games, the Volunteers lost at the buzzer. The Volunteers were desperate to avoid letting that happen again.

“Just focus on how that’s not me and just try to focus on that.”

Ultimately, Tennessee won and knocked off the top-ranked team in the country. That was largely because of Santiago Vescovi’s play. He finished the game with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Next, Tennessee will look to keep things rolling against Kentucky on Saturday.

Santiago Vescovi connected with Olivier Nkamhoua for a crazy lob against Alabama

In the middle of a defensive brawl, Santiago Vescovi and Olivier Nkamhoua connected for a crazy lob to score against Alabama.

About halfway through the first half, the two of them ran a pick-and-roll alley-oop to give the Volunteers a 19-15 lead. You can watch it, here:

There weren’t a ton of fireworks on the offensive end during this game but this was still an awesome moment. Tennessee went on to win 68-59 and one fan had a sign reminding Alabama that this was “just like football.”
