Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy four-star recruit JP Estrella tells On3 he has committed to Tennessee.

Estrella, a 6-foot-10, 210-pound class of 2023 power forward, ultimately chose the ‘Vols over Syracuse and Iowa. He also received offers from Duke, UConn, Maryland, Miami, Harvard, and several others.

The skilled big man is Tennessee’s third commitment to the 2023 class, joining four-star SG Freddie Dilione (No. 32) and three-star PF Cade Phillips (No. 135).

Estrella, a native of Maine, is the No. 37 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evaluators are much higher than the industry on Estrella, ranking him 16th nationally in the class.

Estrella on his commitment to Tennessee

“I chose Tennessee because I have a great relationship with their whole staff,” Estrella said to On3. “Coach (Rick) Barnes and the whole staff have a vision for me and I can see myself being in that vision. I also think I fit in that program really well especially with it being a fast-paced league and I’m a very fast big man.”

What type of player is Tennessee getting in JP Estrella?

“Tennessee is getting a very versatile big man that can shoot the ball very well, block shots, very vocal, big energy guy, and a very athletic big man,” he says.

Estrella also has a message for ‘Vol nation.

“Let’s get this Nati baby!”

Scouting Summary

JP Estrella has good size and he moves well. Competitive on the block, he understands angles and has good footwork. The skilled forward can step out and knock down shots off the catch. He is a good area rebounder and he works hard on the defensive end. He will need to continue adding weight, and he is going to need to work on the lateral quickness. There is a lot to like here as a stretch big with toughness and some pop. – On3’s Jamie Shaw, National Recruiting Analyst
