WATCH: Tennessee football releases hilarious April Fool's Day video
Tennessee wants to run a slower offense. At least, that’s what offensive coordinator Alex Golesh said in a video on Twitter on Friday.
Alright, full disclosure. It was an April Fool’s Day joke. At least it was well-executed, though.
The Volunteers put out a mockumentary-style video Friday featuring Golesh explaining why he wants to slow things down. He even pulled a player aside to tell him to walk to the line instead of run so he wasn’t rushing.
“Our goal, I’ll be honest with you, just really, really sick of just going so fast,” Golesh said in the video. “We’ve been working it all spring. Guys aren’t getting it, so we’ve just got to continue to coach through that. And the big coaching point is just slow down.”
Golesh is getting ready for his second season as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator under second-year coach Josh Heupel. The Volunteers went 7-6 overall and 4-4 in SEC play and made it to the Music City Bowl. They ended up falling to Purdue in that game in overtime.

More on Tennessee entering 2022 season
The Volunteers lost some key pieces to the NFL Draft, including Alontae Taylor and Velus Jones Jr. However, they bring back quarterback Hendon Hooker, who proved to be an effective dual-threat quarterback last season. He had 2,945 passing yards and 31 touchdowns in the air to go with 616 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Tennessee also brings back last year’s leading receiver, Cedric Tillman.
Tennessee also had the No. 14 recruiting class in the country this year, according to the On3 Consensus Team Rankings. That class is led by four-star EDGE James Pierce, who was the No. 3 recruit in the state of North Carolina, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
