The Tennessee Volunteers just received a big boost to its basketball roster for next season. According to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, guard Santiago Vescovi will withdraw from the 2022 NBA Draft and return to Tennessee next season.

“Tennessee’s Santiago Vescovi is expected to withdraw from the NBA Draft process and return to the Vols for this season, source told Stadium,” Goodman tweeted.

Vescovi was Tennessee’s second-leading scorer last season, averaging 13.3 points per game. He also averaged 4.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.7 steals per contest while shooting 41.3% from the field , 40.3% from three-point range and 79.3% from the free throw line.

Vescovi, a Uruguay native, has spent the last three years at Tennessee. He has played in 81 games with 77 starts in his collegiate career, and has averaged 11.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

Vescovi has two years of eligibility remaining as he returns to Tennessee

After his strong campaign this past season, Vescovi earned First Team All-SEC honors and was named to the SEC All-Tournament Team. The Volunteers went on to win the SEC title.

When he came to Tennessee, Vescovi was a three-star recruit, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the 22nd-rated point guard in the 2019 class.

When Vescovi entered the draft process, he was encouraged to do so by Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes. Now he returns to school for at least one more season with more knowledge on what he needs to do to improve his stock in the future.

“Thank you to everyone who supported our team this season. This year’s team was very special, and playing alongside this group of teammates made my love for the game grow even stronger,” Vescovi wrote in an Instagram post. “Coach Barnes has encouraged me to go through the NBA Draft process, and I intend to take advantage of that opportunity while maintaining my collegiate eligibility. I know I have the full support of Vol Nation, and I look forward to the valuable experience and feedback I’ll receive in the weeks to come.”
