Tennessee OT Larry Johnson enters the NCAA Transfer Portal

OT Larry Johnson committed as a top junior college prospect to Tennessee back at the end of 2022. Now, after two seasons on Rocky Top, he’ll be heading elsewhere in the portal.
Johnson will enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos. Johnson had also shared a post on social media announcing his decision to play elsewhere than Knoxville.
“I have been truly blessed to be welcomed into the Vols family and to cross paths with incredible people who have helped shape me both on and off the field,” wrote Johnson. “To Coach Heupel, Coach Elarbee, and the entire Tennessee staff – thank you for believing in me, challenging me, and helping me grow both as a player and a man. The opportunity to wear the orange and white and represent this program is something I’ll forever be grateful for. Your guidance and trust meant the world to me, and I’ll carry those lessons for life. To my brothers, thank you for embracing me like family. The bond we built goes beyond the game. From film sessions and workouts to every rep we took together on the field, I’m better because of each of you. It’s been an honor.”
“After much thought and prayer, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal. This was not an easy decision, but one I feel is right for my path moving forward,” Johnson continued. “Thank you, Vol Nation, for all the love and support. I’ll carry the memories, lessons, and relationships with me into this next chapter.”

Johnson came to Tennessee after a season spent at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. He was, after his year there, the No. 19 JUCO prospect, who was the No. 5 offensive tackle and the No. 6 player out of the state, in 2023 among the top JUCO Recruits. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Johnson is now the fourth transfer during the spring window of the portal for the Vols. They obviously lost QB Nico Iamaleava (UCLA) but also have seen departures from WR Dayton Sneed and DB John Slaughter. They make up a total of 19 losses by way of transfer from the program over the course of this offseason.
