Tennessee pitcher Nate Snead was throwing some heat in Tuesday night’s matchup against High Point. The Vols sophomore delivered a fastball in the top of the eighth inning that was clocked at 101 miles per hour.

The pitch struck out Panthers outfielder Brett Ahalt for the second out of the inning. Snead pitched the final 2.1 innings of the game to earn the save as Tennessee claimed a 7-4 victory. You can view the throw below.

Snead finished the game with five strikeouts, the most of any of the six Vols pitchers who saw action. He allowed just one hit and one run with one error. Matthew Dallas started the game but was pulled after 2.2 innings. Chris Stamos got the win to improve to 2-0 on the season.

A transfer from Wichita State, Snead arrived in Knoxville coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he was named to the All-Freshman Team for the American Athletic Conference. He’s so far proved a solid addition for Tennessee as a reliever.

Snead has appeared in three games thus far to pitch 10.1 innings, throwing 12 strikeouts and allowing only five hits. His five strikeouts Tuesday were a season-high, and he also pitched 2.2 innings of no-hit baseball on Feb. 25 against Albany. He is 2-0 on the season with an ERA of 2.35.
