Once again proving why its one of the SEC’s top clubs in baseball this season, Tennessee carried its momentum to Starkville for the final regular season series of the season for a three-game set against Mississippi State.

Naturally, the Vols hit three dingers in a 10-pitch span. Luc Lipcius, Jordan Beck and Drew Gilbert were the ones to go yard in the top of the first, much to the dismay of the spotty crowd of Bulldog faithful.

Currently blowing out the Bulldogs by double-digit runs on Thursday, Tennessee will advance to 47-7 (23-5, SEC) following the win and is already guaranteed to be the No. 1 overall seed heading into next week’s SEC Tournament.

Before the Vols can set their sights to Hoover, Alabama, they’ve still got two more matchups against Mississippi State before this upcoming Tuesday. Friday’s game is slated for 7 p.m. ET in Starkville before following that up with Game 3 at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday. Both games will be broadcasted on the SEC Network.

Trey Lipscomb makes Tennessee baseball history

This season has been a special one for the Tennessee Volunteers baseball team, and that is especially true for senior infielder Trey Lipscomb. Last Thursday night, Lipscomb’s historic season continued in a series-opening victory over Georgia

In the bottom of the second inning with no outs, Lipscomb launched the 0-1 pitch into left-center, and the ball continued to carry over the wall for the home run. The long ball broke the scoreless tie, giving Tennessee the early 1-0 lead.

The home run was Lipscomb’s 20th of the season. He became the first Tennessee player since 2009 to hit 20 home runs in a single season. Tennessee went on to defeat Georgia 5-2 on Thursday night. Game two of the series is set for 5:30 p.m. ET on Friday night.
