In the second game of the Knoxville Regional, the Alabama State defense did all it could to keep the top-ranked Tennessee Volunteers offense in check. However, in the sixth inning, that all changed with a five-run barrage by the Volunteers.

Heading into the inning, Tennessee was hanging onto a 3-0 lead. The Volunteers had a few opportunities to expand on their lead before then, but the Hornets defense – which was ranked number one in the SWAC conference regular season – was able to keep the Volunteers bats in line. However, after the Hornets made a pitching change to close out the fifth inning, the Tennessee bats came to life. Tennessee went on to score six runs in an inning and a third capped off by this home run by right fielder Jordan Beck.

The volunteers now lead the Hornets 10-0 in the 9th inning. And barring a monumental collapse, Tennessee will advance to the winner’s game of the Knoxville regional. There they will face the No. 3 seed Campbell who upset the No. 2 seed Georgia Tech earlier on Friday. The Camels defeated the yellow jackets 15-8 and a high-powered offensive show.
