Tennessee’s Jamison Brockenbrough and Rylie West brought the boom during the Lady Vols’ victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide at the Women’s College World Series.

The Tennessee stars both clobbered home runs against their vaunted SEC rival. Brockenbrough knocked hers out of the park in the bottom of the third inning, a two-run shot, and she explained to the ESPN broadcasting crew that she’s been waiting for that moment, working hard for it over the last couple of months.

“Been working on that low and in pitch,” explained Brockenbrough, “and all the hard-work, it just paid off. I’m very thankful.”

Moreover, Brockenbrough elaborated on how the experience of playing against the Crimson Tide and their pitching staff throughout the season helped the Lady Vols, as it gave them a baseline to prepare for at the plate.

“I think it really helped, because we kind of went in preparing (for) what they’re going to throw,” added the Lady Vols outfielder. “It was good.”

Meanwhile, West knocked a three-run blast over the fence to help extend Tennessee’s lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, her fifth of the season. According to the Lady Vols star, the team’s mindset has been attack, attack, attack, and that’s what helped Tennessee get the win.

“Our mindset is just to attack,” explained West. “It doesn’t matter who’s pitching and who we’re facing, just to attack. So our conversations of attacking the whole time, going out, playing free. That’s exactly what we’re doing.”

Additionally, it’s been noted that Tennessee is a notoriously player-led squad, which is different from many of the teams at the Women’s College World Series. That’s been a positive according to West, as it’s helped her and her teammates hold each other accountable throughout the season.

“Player led, you get it done with each other,” added West. “We know what we have to do, and we talk about it daily. So when you’re talking about it with your teammates, you’re going for it, holding each other accountable, it’s really important.”

As you can see, it makes sense why Tennessee is having so much success on the diamond in 2023, and they could be readying for a magical run at the Women’s College World Series if they can keep their level of play up.
