Tim Tebow reveals the keys to Tennessee coming away with a win vs. Alabama
Alabama and Tennessee will renew their rivalry Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium as a part of a loaded day of college football. Florida legend and ESPN analyst Tim Tebow joined SportsCenter Saturday morning to preview the game and share what Tennessee must do to come away with a win.
According to Tebow, the Vols should pay close attention to what South Carolina did against Alabama last week when the Gamecocks nearly pulled off the upset.
“Well, I think they need to learn from what South Carolina did last week. And it really starts by being physical on the outside,” Tebow said. “Their secondary, they cannot be soft with these receivers. These receivers, when they get going on bubble screens early in the game, they can be dangerous. But I love the way South Carolina, they were being physical. They brought the physicality to the Alabama receivers.”
The second key for Tennessee involves slowing down Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe in the running game, according to Tebow.
Milroe has 319 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns already this season.
“The second thing is, you’ve gotta stop the QB sweep,” Tebow said. “This is something Alabama did over six times last week against South Carolina. … They just design it a bunch of different ways, and it’s an easy six-seven yards every single time for Alabama.”
Tebow added that Tennessee also needs to be creative with its third down defense, the way that the Gamecocks were against the Crimson Tide last week.

“The third thing is, when it gets to third down, you’ve gotta give a lot of variety, and this is what South Carolina did and this is what Tennessee has to do,” Tebow said. “You’ve gotta be able to corral [Milroe] and they’ve gotta be aggressive with that. That’s what South Carolina did.”
Finally, Tebow believes that the Tennessee crowd has to do its part. The Vols need to have Rocky Top truly rocking. He showed a video from last week’s Tennessee-Florida game as an example.
“Rocky Top, it better be Rocky Top, and they call it that for a reason,” Tebow said. “On third down, with 4 minutes to play in the game, third-and-12, this is the coaches end zone shot. There’s a reason it’s not in focus – because the stadium is shaking. That’s why they call it Rocky Top.
“It has gotta be rocking, not just with 4 minutes to go, but all day long, if the Big Orange Nation wants to get a victory.”
