WATCH: Trevon Flowers clutch interception, first for Matt Corral
Tennessee forced Matt Corral’s first interception of the season on Saturday with a clutch fourth-quarter turnover caught by defensive back Trevon Flowers. Corral’s interception was the first of his season, having already thrown for 1,497 yards and 12 touchdowns coming into Saturday’s game.
Tennessee forces Corral’s first interception
On a third-and-four play with Ole Miss leading by five with over 11 minutes in the game, Corral rolled outside to extend the play after nobody was initially open. Tennessee’s pass rush got to Corral, and the quarterback had to shake a defender from wrapping up his legs.
After breaking the sack attempt, Corral tried to rifle a pass down the sideline to one of his receivers. The ball was tipped by defenders in front of the throw, and the ball bounced over another defender’s head before defensive back Trevon Flowers intercepted the ball.
Despite having over 400 yards of total offense from Corral alone, his first interception came at a costly moment for the Rebels. With Tennessee only trailing by five and threatening to take the lead, momentum appeared to shift into their favor.
Tennessee would not take the lead on the next drive though, as the Volunteer’s offense would be forced to punt.
Tennessee turnover taken away
Earlier in the contest between the Volunteers and the Rebels, a confusing play resulted in referees taking away a potential defensive touchdown for Tennessee.

The play itself confused almost everybody involved as it started with Corral simply standing up with the football during a live play. Not hearing any whistles, the Tennessee defense played through and stripped the football out of Corral’s hands before he hit the ground.
The Volunteers scooped up the ball and ran it into the end zone before learning that the play was blown dead by the referees the moment they hit the quarterback. The play would result in a sack and nothing more, leading to plenty of frustration from Tennessee fans.
Fans were left wondering how the referees could allow the play to continue, but not let the play develop entirely as it appeared the referees blew the play dead early as they were confused as well.
While Matt Corral did not have a turnover added to his stat sheet at the time, later in the game Tennessee would make sure he threw his first interception of the season.
