WATCH: Rick Barnes celebrates Tennessee comeback win
Good times are rolling for Rick Barnes and Tennessee. While they let Mississippi State hang around and lead them late into the game, the Volunteers outscored the Bulldogs 11-2 over the final three minutes to gain a huge SEC win on Wednesday.
Watching Tennessee control the deciding minutes of the game was great, but the celebration Barnes and the Volunteers put on afterwards will bring a smile to your face.
“All I gotta say — just keep pushing P, baby,” stated Barnes, celebrating the victory.
To illustrate, “Pushing P” is a saying that’s gone viral since the release of the album DRIP SEASON 4EVER by artist Gunna. On the album, the track pushin P is the second song on the release. While the meaning hasn’t been explicitly explained, the over-arching meaning has been theorized to mean pushing positivity.
Many have adopted it as their motto to begin 2022, and it looks like it’s even made its way to Rick Barnes and Tennessee. The Volunteers will be pushing P all the way to March, and we’ll see how far it can take them.
More on Tennessee, victory over Mississippi State
Furthermore, Tennessee couldn’t afford to lose to the Bulldogs on Wednesday. Luckily, they showed resolve — completing a comeback victory to avoid a detrimental upset.

Leading the way was star guard Kennedy Chandler, scoring 18 points, pulling down five rebounds and dishing out three assists. Additionally, guard Josiah-Jordan James was instrumental to the victory — adding 18 points and three rebounds to the victory.
Now, Tennessee has a rivalry game against Vanderbilt on Saturday. The Commodores are coming to Knoxville. However, they can’t get caught looking ahead, as a showdown with No. 5 Kentucky looms large in the distance. Also, Rick Barnes needs to have his team pushing P until the end of the month, as the Volunteers welcome No. 1 Auburn to town for the final weekend of February.
As you can see, Tennessee is finding their stride — and their motto — with the season reaching the most important point. Barnes uses his wealth of experience to motivate his teams, but perhaps he has Gunna to thank for the Volunteers playing some of their best basketball of the season.
