The Tennessee football season opener is only one night away in Knoxville.

The Vols will square off against the Bowling Green Falcons in Neyland Stadium tomorrow night and the school has released their hype video ahead of the game.

Check out the video below.

New linebackers at Tennessee

The Volunteers’ coaching staff has been recently raving about the infusion of new talent at the linebacker position in Knoxville.

While Tennessee was hit with a number of defections at the position in the off-season (Henry To’o To’o), they’ve also seen a number of new and talented players at the position join the roster in the 2021 off-season.

The highest-rated linebacker prospect they brought in the 2021 class is four-star Aaron Willis of Life Christian Academy (Colonial Heights, Virginia).

Willis is a Baltimore, Maryland native and was named to the Under Armour All-American roster for the 2021 class.

The Volunteers also welcome a couple of new additions via the transfer portal, William Mohan, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker transferring from Michigan. Mohan only played one game for the Wolverines in 2020. He has a connection with Tennessee linebacker coach Brian Jean-Mary.

Jean Mary was the linebackers coach at Michigan for the 2020 season. This will be his first season coaching at Tennessee.

Then, there is Juwan Mitchell, a 6-foot-1, 226-pound linebacker from Texas.

Mitchell led the Longhorns in tackles in 2020, racking up 62 tackles, which ranked 15th in the Big 12. He also stuffed the stat sheet in 2020 with 4.5 tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry, one pass breakup, and one fumble recovery. The New Jersey native tallied five tackles in six of nine games in his junior season at Texas.

With Tennessee losing so many players at linebacker in the off-season, Mitchell is expected to make a big impact this fall for the Vols. He recently spoke to Patrick Brown about his decision and why he chose Tennessee.

“I really picked Tennessee because of the coaching staff, the conference,” Mitchell said, per Brown. “A lot went into it, but the transition’s been smooth. I love the versatility of how offenses are run [in the SEC], I’ve been watching some film. I pretty much look at the SEC as the Big 12 and Big Ten combined.”

Mitchell currently has two seasons of eligibility left for Tennessee.

Both transfers will be eligible to play immediately for the Volunteers this fall.

Tennessee football kicks of their 2021 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 2 against the Bowling Green Falcons. The game is in Knoxville, Tennessee and kickoff is slated for 8:00 p.m. EST.
