Tennessee WR Bru McCoy carted off field with apparent leg injury
A scary scene in Knoxville unfolded in the second quarter of Saturday’s game between Tennessee and South Carolina. As the Vols were driving down the field, wide receiver Bru McCoy went down with what looked to be a leg injury. Quarterback Joe Milton instantly looked shaken up by it, proving it could be serious.
Tennessee brought out the cart as well, taking McCoy off the field.
“Bru McCoy is down and at the risk of speculating too soon, it looks like it could be serious,” Rob Lewis of On3’s Vol Quest said via Twitter. “Appears to be lower leg. Being carted off.”
The official Tennessee Football Twitter account has not put up any kind of update yet. However, they did send out a message, saying their thoughts are with McCoy. Two prayer hands and a broken heart emoji made the tweet simple enough.
Before leaving the field, McCoy had caught two passes for a total of 21 yards. He has been a key part of the Tennessee offense since arriving on campus via the NCAA transfer portal. McCoy was the team’s second-leading receiver through four games and was set to continue his good start against South Carolina.
Hopefully, the injury is not as scary as it seemed on the field and McCoy will get back to playing as soon as possible.

Josh Heupel comments on Bru McCoy injury heading into halftime
When halftime came around, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel had the opportunity to comment on the situation involving McCoy. He got a bit emotional, saying he was upset for him, especially after how hard he has worked since being with the Vols.
Of course, you never want to see anybody get hurt but when it’s an important and well-liked player on the team, it stings a little bit more. As mentioned, Milton began to walk to the sideline, not wanting to observe, once he saw McCoy on the ground.
“Obviously, doesn’t look good,” Huepel said via SEC Network’s Cole Cubelic. “I hate it for the kid. Not a better kid, not a tougher kid in the country.”
There likely will not be another update from Heupel until the postgame press conference. Heupel could receive more information after meeting with the Tennessee medical staff and relay it to Cubelic before the second half kicks off. Everyone will be hoping what Heupel can relay later in the night will be positive news.
