Josh Heupel provides a health update on injured receiver Cedric Tillman
Tennessee put on an offensive explosion against Alabama on Saturday, putting up 52 points. A lot of the work came from quarterback Hendon Hooker and wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, with the two connecting for five touchdowns. All of that came without one of the Vols’ top weapons — Cedric Tillman.
Head coach Josh Heupel provided an injury update on Tillam heading into UT-Martin, saying he “looks good” out on the practice field. The next evaluation point will come at the end of the week, where Tennessee will do what’s best for the wide receiver.

“Looks good out there,” Heupel said during Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference. “His ability to function at 100% just his ability to function and feeling comfortable. We’ll see where we are at the end of the week and make a decision on what’s best for him in the short term and long term.”
Tillman has not played in an SEC game yet to this season, suffering an injury against Akron on Sept. 17. He had developed a special chemistry with Hooker before going down, having 17 receptions for 246 yards and a touchdown in just three games.
It’s scary to think the Volunteers’ offense could get even scarier when Tillman is back in the fray. While it’s only UT-Martin this weekend, the SEC East decider against Georgia will be at the top of everyone’s minds. Getting a star wide receiver back vs. a Kirby Smart defense would be a huge boost.

Jabari Small reveals chip on his shoulder
Tennessee running back Jabari Small has been a key piece of the offense, despite dealing with a few injuries. Now, he’s running with a chip on his shoulder for the Volunteers. That’s huge, as he’s been a huge key to the team’s offensive success this season.
During a press conference, Jabari Small was asked if he felt differently in recent weeks after getting back from a shoulder injury. Small explained that he’s been running mad since then.
“Yeah, I’ve been kind of mad,” Small said. “I’m kind of tired–I was tired of getting injured.”
“So, just kind of playing with a chip on my shoulder really, not caring who the opponent is, just trying to take advantage of every opportunity given. Really, just playing with an attitude.”
