Booger McFarland reacts to Texas A&M upset over Missouri
No. 25 Texas A&M steamrolled No. 9 Missouri at home 41-10, proving to be a team that others might have to reckon with when it comes to the 2024 College Football Playoff.
It was a fifth straight win for the Aggies, who now lead the SEC with a 3-0 conference mark.
For ESPN analyst Booger McFarland, the game was evidence that Texas A&M might finally be tapping into its immense potential with a loaded roster and now a clear direction in terms of coaching.
“We’ve talked about this A&M team at the beginning of the season,” McFarland said. “We knew they could run the football. The offensive line was good. LeVeon Moss. The defense. Conner Weigman just had to make enough plays, and we finally saw the A&M team that we expected to see at the beginning of the year, we saw today.”
The surprise on Saturday might just have been Weigman.
The veteran starter returned from a sprained AC joint that cost him the last three weeks. But if there was any rust, Weigman shook it off almost immediately at Kyle Field on Saturday.
Texas A&M piled up 512 yards of offense and Weigman was near perfect in the win. He finished 18-of-22 passing for 276 yards. He didn’t throw a touchdown pass, but he also didn’t throw an interception.
He simply set the Aggies up to punch it in on the ground, where they couldn’t be stopped.
Moss ran for 138 yards and three scores, while Amari Daniels scored twice and logged 34 yards rushing. Missouri had no answers, and Texas A&M looked ready to send a statement.

“I mean it’s a big game,” Weigman said after the game. “Top 10 team coming into our house, come set the tone early and that’s how we’re going to play the rest of the season.”
If so, Texas A&M might well become a playoff team. The schedule sets up quite nicely from here, with only two ranked teams remaining: No. 13 LSU and No. 2 Texas, at season’s end.
The lone loss shouldn’t hurt, with Notre Dame also looking like a potential playoff team so far.
Suffice it to say, Texas A&M is starting to look like the team McFarland and many others envisioned going into the year, even if it was a bit of an adventure getting there.
