Texas A&M safety Bryce Anderson is due for a bigger role in 2023 with the Aggies and it’s his love of the game that drives him to success.

After his first season, Anderson got his first taste of college football. At this point, it’s about competing.

Safe to say, Anderson can’t wait to get back on the field for Texas A&M in the fall.

“Really just my love for the game,” Anderson said when asked where that smile comes from. “I just love being on the field with the guys I love. I love competing. I love performing. I just love football and I just love it on the field.”

Anderson played in 11 games as a freshman and finished his first year on campus with 28 total tackles, 16 solo tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

The bigger role for Anderson in Texas A&M’s defense is replacing Antonio Jonhson, an All-SEC First-Team player in 2022.

“I feel like it’s no pressure, because like I said, I played some snaps last year behind him,” Anderson said. “Coming in as a young guy he really groomed me, taught me everything, him and Demani (Richardson) those two guys pretty much taught me everything I know system-wise. So I feel like there’s no pressure, just go out there and play ball.”

As a member of the Class of 2022, Anderson was a four-star recruit out of Beaumont (Texas) West Brook, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 10 overall prospect in the state, the No. 6 safety in the class and the No. 59 overall prospect in the class.

“I’m able to just play,” Anderson said. “I’m able to play freely, I’m able to show my range, show that I can cover man to man, go on blitzes coach Durkin’s been using me on, in and outs, playing zone coverages. And still this year he’s still been using me in the nickel, some at strong (safety), some at free (safety), so being interchangeable.”
