Buzz Williams details importance of free throws, offensive rebounds to Texas A&M offense
Buzz Williams’ Texas A&M squad has been one of the best teams in the SEC this year. Even with a subpar performance against Auburn, the Aggies were able to pull out the victory.
After Tuesday’s game, Texas A&M ranks sixth in the country in offensive rebounding percentage at 36.4%. and 14th in the nation in free throw attempt rate at 0.411. Those numbers ranks first and third in the SEC, respectively.
“If you look at our offensive numbers, the numbers are skewed and the numbers skewed by free throw makes and the numbers are skewed by we’re first in the league in offensive rebound percentage,” Williams said after the 83-78 victory.

Texas A&M finished the game by shooting 39 free throws and making 31 of them. The team also secured 13 offensive rebounds for 13 second-chance points.
“But what aids our offense?” Buzz Williams said of his Texas A&M team. “I think we were going into tonight we were the second best offense in the league. But our points per possession is skewed by free throw makes and it’s skewed by offensive rebounds. Tonight they shot 10 more balls than we did. We were a one to one assist to turnover ratio…Making free throws, particularly with you starting with one of five and then making him three in a row. Those were big. Those were big for sure.”
