One of the big challenges for Texas A&M against Missouri was breaking the Tigers’ press. It’s safe to say the Aggies did a good job of that as they cruised to the 82-64 victory — and Buzz Williams broke down how they did it.

Williams said there are two big keys to breaking the press. The first is putting pressure on the rim and doing so in multiple ways. The other is taking care of the basketball and not turning it over. He said his team did both, and that needs to me more than just a one-game thing.

“If you don’t turn it over, then in my opinion, you want in how we play — not just against Coach — you want to put pressure on the rim … whether that’s throwing it inside, whether that’s driving to the charge circle, whether that’s shooting a room-in-rhythm three and putting pressure on the rim with multiple offensive rebounders,” Williams said. “The pressure on the rim, from whichever category it comes from, over time, we hope that that leads to free throw makes. I thought we did a good job of that.

“We had six turnovers in the first half and then 12, obviously, in the second half. But I thought our offensive rebound percentage, I think it was 38.5, and then our defensive rebound percentage was, I think, 78.5. For us and our makeup, if you can keep that level of pressure on the rim, then hopefully, you can at least slow them down as long as you don’t have too high of a turnover rate.”

Texas A&M improved 11-5 overall with the victor and is now 3-0 in SEC play. The Aggies will now turn their attention to Saturday’s matchup against South Carolina in Columbia. That game tips off at 6 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
