Buzz Williams opens up on in-game emotion for Texas A&M
Buzz Williams and his Texas A&M team don’t really play things close to the chest during games. The head coach and his players are often animated on the sidelines and on the court.
After a home win over Arkansas on Wednesday night, Williams discussed the fiery nature of himself and his team during games. He thinks the root of it all is joy.
“But I do think that there is joy in a sincere way, in a humble way. I don’t think our guys are — maybe they are to you guys — I don’t think there’s a hint of arrogance within what we’re doing. I don’t think you hear us saying things that make it about us. But I do think that they love one another. And I think that they enjoy working together. And for sure, like playing in front of a crowd that continues to grow. It’s starting to be a hard ticket to get. I think as a kid you grow up wanting to be in that position, right?” Williams said. “The guys that pay attention to ball on our team, they knew that Tennessee beat Alabama. It was great joy. Fun joy. And we’ll just see if we can continue to stay disciplined. Coach cliche, go 1-0 at the next one.”
The source of the joy is simple, as Williams explained it: Texas A&M is 13-2 since falling to 6-5 after a loss to Wofford in December.

Getting to continue their hot streak against at talented Arkansas team that was, at points, ranked in the Top 10, is a reason for joy.
“And we have great respect for Arkansas. I think they were picked preseason No. 2 in the SEC. I think, against — when we played Wofford, we finished 6-5 after that loss. Arkansas was ranked 10th in the United States,” Williams said. “So, that speaks to their staff. A coach that has won 74% of his college games through eight years as a coach. He’s won more SEC games over the last four years than any team in the league. They have three NBA players currently on their team, who will be in the NBA next year. They’re really good. They’re really good. They’re going to advance in the NCAA tournament.”
