Buzz Williams reveals his comfort level entering Selection Sunday
Texas A&M‘s SEC Tournament championship hopes came to an end at the hands of Florida on Saturday afternoon, losing to the Gators 95-90 in a high-scoring affair.
At 20-14 overall and a 7-6 record in Quad 1 opportunities — has Texas A&M done enough to secure an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament? Aggies head coach Buzz Williams wants the selection committee to take a close look at their last six games as he pleaded Texas A&M’s case during his postgame press conference.
“I think it’s a combination of the last six weeks. I mean, I know you guys know,” Williams said. “We lost every game for two and a half weeks in a row, then now we’ve won every game for two and a half weeks in a row.
“Thankful for the last five wins. This is our first loss in March. But I also think the response of our guys from the five losses in a row, thankful, very grateful. I thought they played with great resiliency today on a fast turnaround. Of all of the things that transpired, to lose a two-possession game against a top 25 team, really thankful.”
As it stands, ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi has Texas A&M atop the ‘Last Four Byes’ category on his latest bracketology update posted to social media. Before the loss to Florida, Lunardi had the Aggies within the bubble completely — but it looks as though Lunardi still remains confident in the Aggies’ chances of going straight into the round of 64.

After Saturday’s slew of conference semifinal and championship games, Lunardi updated his official bracket projection and slotted the Aggies as a nine-seed in the West Region.
“Whatever is going to happen tomorrow, just to be able to be in this position, I think our team has changed over the last three weeks,” Williams continued. “I think there’s some legacy that goes into what has transpired and their response.
“To be able to play on Saturday three years in a row in the tournament — I think there’s a lot of good stuff. We’re disappointed with the result, but we also don’t want to miss the lessons that transpired this month, for sure.”
For now, the Aggies can head back to College Station knowing that they made their mark on the SEC Tournament. Selection Sunday festivities will begin with the men’s field set to be announced live on CBS at 6 p.m. ET.
