Buzz Williams reveals how Texas A&M bounces back from losses
Texas A&M remained in the Top-25 today after picking up just their third loss of the SEC season this weekend at Mississippi State. Now, the Aggies will have to respond again as a team in order to finish the last week of the regular season strong.
However, Buzz Williams didn’t sound too worried about his team’s response during his press conference on Monday. He pointed out how, time and again, his players have answered the bell following victories as well as defeats. With that kind of track record, he says has full belief in them doing it again in Oxford on Tuesday night.
“If you were to divide the league into thirds? The first six games, the next six games, and the third six games? In lap one, we lost one game. That was at Kentucky. We were 5-1,” Williams pointed out. “Then, in the second lap, we lost one game. That was at Arkansas. And then, obviously in this lap with two games to go, we lost one at Mississippi State.”
“I do think the response by our guys and by our staff has been tremendous. But I think the other thing is…I think the consistency of our response? Regardless of result? (It) has been really good,” said Williams. “We were 6-5 and we had two Quad 4 losses on December 20th. So to go from that point and to go up faster in the NET than any team ever?…Handling the success? That response has been just as good as the response when we’ve lost…That’s hard to do. To be able to be accountable and be responsible the next day, regardless of the result of the previous day. Hopefully that’ll come to light again tomorrow.”

The Aggies have been one of the steadiest teams in the league this season. As Williams pointed out, they haven’t had a losing streak in conference play while holding win streaks of five and then six before they dropped their last game in Starkville. Keeping that momentum while not stacking losses is very impressive considering the depth in the SEC and the fact that, to start the year, they were 6-5 with some rough non-conference outcomes.
Still, if Williams knows his team, they’ll be ready to roll against Ole Miss tomorrow. If they are, the Aggies will lock up the No. 2 seed in preparation to keep their successful run going come the SEC Tournament in Nashville the following week.
