Buzz Williams couldn’t say enough great things about his team after Texas A&M defeated Arkansas 62-56 in comeback fashion Wednesday night. The Aggies have now won 13 of their last 15 games, and have no intentions of looking back now that they’re closer than ever to topping the SEC standings after their most recent win.

“I hold [this team] in such high regard. The results have been phenomenal,” Williams said after the win. “I get the attention that comes with that. I respect it. We were 6-5 when Santa Claus came to your house, and we won 11 out of our 13 conference games. Since Santa Claus came, we’ve won 13 out of 15. They’ve been very accepting of the situation that we were in.

“They have responded to the changes that we’ve made. They’ve been willing to do the work required, not knowing that it would end up being what it has been through 15 games. They’ve been willing to do the work required just to maybe you have a chance for success.”

The Aggies have almost snuck their way into the No. 2 ranking in the latest SEC standings. They’re unranked in the AP Poll, but win an 11-2 conference record, they have better records than Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Arkansas and other preseason favorites to win the conference.

This season alone has seen Alabama dominate to levels we’ve only seen out of their football program, Kentucky struggle on a nightly basis to earn an NCAA Tournament bid, see Missouri take the conference by storm, among other storylines.

It’s easy to forget about the little ‘ole Aggies. That’s the disrespect they’ve been feeding off of, though.

After being snubbed from March Madness last season after making their improbable SEC Tournament run, Texas A&M has firmly asserted itself in the tournament and could add a couple of conference titles to its resume before it gets there.
