Buzz Williams says Texas A&M players 'really care'
Buzz Williams has been coaching for a long time, but even he hasn’t experienced a group quite like his 2022-23 Texas A&M squad. He knows it sounds cliche, but from the players to coaches to staff, everyone is bought in.
To hear Williams talk about it is to start to appreciate just how rare that is. All he could do was rave about the organization, top to bottom.
“I know it sounds repetitive, and I’m not trying to control the narrative, whatsoever — you guys write whatever you want, tweet whatever you want. But I think our guys really care. And I think they want to give their best. And I don’t think that there’s any selfishness in the organization. I think everybody is pulling with the same intent. And everybody’s very self aware of themselves, obviously, but also of what’s required of our organization,” Williams said after a win over Arkansas on Wednesday night.
And for Williams, who has been a coach for nearly three decades and a head coach for more than half his time on the sidelines, it’s a one off.
“Like I said, this is my 29th year in coaching and my 16th year as a head coach, I’ve never been a part of it where the cohesiveness on an ongoing, daily basis is as fluid as it is here, currently,” Williams said.

Williams says he has held Texas A&M ‘in high regard’
Buzz Williams couldn’t say enough great things about his team after Texas A&M defeated Arkansas 62-56 in comeback fashion Wednesday night. The Aggies have now won 13 of their last 15 games, and have no intentions of looking back now that they’re closer than ever to topping the SEC standings after their most recent win.
“I hold [this team] in such high regard. The results have been phenomenal,” Williams said after the win. “I get the attention that comes with that. I respect it. We were 6-5 when Santa Claus came to your house, and we won 11 out of our 13 conference games. Since Santa Claus came, we’ve won 13 out of 15. They’ve been very accepting of the situation that we were in.
“They have responded to the changes that we’ve made. They’ve been willing to do the work required, not knowing that it would end up being what it has been through 15 games. They’ve been willing to do the work required just to maybe you have a chance for success.”
