After departing Texas A&M for the Maryland job after six years in charge, coach Buzz Williams had a message for the Aggies. He made it abundantly clear that he enjoyed his time in College Station.

The 52-year-old head coach penned a farewell letter to his Texas A&M constituents. In it, he praised and thanked multiple groups.

“Words cannot describe how thankful I am for the past six years,” Williams wrote. “Every relationship, every contribution, every Buzz’s Bunch Camp, all the historic things we accomplished together, and most importantly, that you welcomed myself and my family with open arms. From the moment we returned to Texas, the impact on our hearts was evident and profound.”

Texas A&M has now made the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons after last appearing in the Big Dance in 2018. It took Williams a little bit to get things going, but once he did the Aggies were a formidable team.

Now he’ll head to Maryland, where he hopes to engineer a similar run of success. First, though, he wanted to pass along his thanks. Starting with the fans.

“To the 12th Man, your passion, loyalty and belief fueled us in ways that went far beyond the court,” Williams wrote. “You always showed up, stood tall, and made Reed Arena a competitive advantage again. Your spirit is woven into every memory we take with us.”

Williams thanked the administration. He also thanked his former players.

“To the administration — thank you for trusting me with this program and supporting us through every high and low,” Buzz Williams wrote. “Your buy-in gave us the freedom to lead with conviction and integrity.

“To the former players — thank you for giving your all. The way you represented this institution, this team, and yourselves will always be part of this program’s foundation. It’s been the honor of my career to coach you and to watch you grow as men.”

Now, taking on the Maryland job, Williams will simply be tasked with keeping the program elevated. The Terrapins are coming off a Sweet 16 run under Kevin Willard. But until next season begins, Williams will look back fondly on his time with the Aggies. It was a heck of a run.

“We leave with full hearts, deep gratitude, and a lasting bond with this university and its people,” Williams concluded.
