Texas A&M’s 6-0 victory over Florida on Wednesday night propelled the Aggies to the College World Series championship series to face off against Tennessee. Plenty of Texas A&M players made key plays throughout the night to help them pick up the win. One of which was a home run by outfielder Caden Sorrell.

After the Aggies’ victory, in the postgame press conference, Sorrell discussed his moonshot in the sixth inning, which gave his team the 5-0 lead and simultaneously crushed the spirits of the Florida players.

“I think I started the at-bat 2-0 against him, just because they brought him in after the other pitcher started throwing a couple balls, and pretty much my approach was just sitting fastball. I know he’s pretty fastball-heavy,” said Sorrell. “He’s got a lot of arm side running right on it, so I was just sitting fastball, trying to get something that started low or middle, and luckily, he threw a fastball pretty much middle middle and I was just sitting fastball and I got it and I executed it.”

Sorrell finished Wednesday night responsible for three of the Aggies’ six runs in the game. He also had a sac fly to center field in the first inning, bringing home Jace LaViolette in the first inning to give Texas A&M the early 2-0 lead. Sorrell’s offense helped complement Texas A&M’s impressive pitching on the night, led by Justin Lamkin, who was able to quiet the Florida bats, who had just put 15 on the board earlier in the day against Kentucky.

Lamkin on his self-confidence and how it translated into pitching success against Florida

Also, in the postgame press conference, Lamkin addressed his start on Wednesday and why he was so successful against Florida during the College World Series.

“I think the big part of it is just having self-confidence in myself and knowing I can go out there and I can compete and play at this level, and I think just getting ahead of hitters and just having true confidence in all my pitches really helped me out,” Lamkin said.

Lamkin has enjoyed success going head-to-head with Florida in this year’s College World Series. He entered the World Series with an ERA of 5.73, which dropped down to 5.00 after his two outings against the Gators. Lamkin threw five shut-out innings against Florida on Wednesday night, allowing just three hits and one walk to complement his nine strikeouts. If Lamkin can continue to ride this high level of confidence, he’ll undoubtedly be called on to help lead Texas A&M to its first-ever college baseball championship and be the face of the program going forward.
