4-star OL Coen Echols decommits from Texas A&M
Katy (Texas) four-star offensive lineman Coen Echols has decommited from Texas A&M, he announced on Friday.
Echols had previously been committed to the Aggies since June, when he picked them over Auburn, Texas Tech, LSU and a handful of others.
“I would like to start off by thanking the Lord for blessing me to be where I am today,” he wrote on Twitter. “I would also like to thank my family for their continued guidance and support. I would like to thank the Texas A&M coaching staff for giving me this great opportunity, and I would like to thank the fans and players for the love they have shown me and my family. I wish nothing but the best for Texas A&M, but with all that being said, my recruitment is 100% back open. Please respect me and my family’s decision at this time. This isn’t just any decision, but a life decision.”
The 6-foot-3, 285-pounder is the No. 217 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 14 interior offensive lineman and No. 39 senior recruit in Texas.
He was the sixth-highest rated prospect in the Aggies class, which has taken a few major hits since the firing of head coach Jimbo Fisher last month. But even prior to that, A&M’s crop, which at one point ranked in the top-five nationally, had begun to splinter apart.

On3 five-star offensive tackle Weston Davis flipped his pledge to LSU in October, and four-star wide receiver Dre’lon Miller left the class a week before that. After Fisher’s firing, four-star defensive lineman Gabriel Reliford decommitted from the Aggies, and last week, Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Cam Coleman flipped his commitment to Auburn.
Auburn looking to snag another major piece of A&M’s class
The Tigers are expected to be a major factor for Echols as well.
He visited Auburn for the Iron Bowl and came back blown away by the experience, he told On3’s Sam Spiegelman.
“The visit went great. The crowd was unreal. I’ve never experienced anything like it,” Echols said. “It was unreal. It felt like I was dreaming. It was so unreal. The stadium was rocking while they were yelling. In the fourth quarter, when they doing the swag-surfing, that was really cool. It was just an awesome experience.”
Spiegelman has since logged a pick in Auburn’s favor in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).
