Conner Weigman cleared for practice, named starting quarterback by Jimbo Fisher

Texas A&M looks like it’ll be getting quarterback Conner Weigman back this weekend for their trip to Auburn.
After missing last Saturday’s loss to the Florida Gators as part of the massive outbreak of the flu that kept many Aggies out of the game, Marshall Levenson of On3 is reporting that Jimbo Fisher revealed Weigman has been cleared and will be at practice this week.

“Texas A&M HC Jimbo Fisher says QB Conner Weigman has been cleared and will be a full participation this week,” tweeted Levenson.
Next Saturday’s showdown with the Tigers figures to be the first game for Weigman since his very impressive outing in a narrow loss to Ole Miss, where he threw for 338 yards and four touchdowns.
Moreover, Weigman was not expected to play as much entering the season, recent struggles on offense have resulted in the Aggies looking for any changes they can make.
Now, he’s the leader of the Aggies offense, as Fisher confirmed on Monday that Weigman is his No. 1 quarterback, per Levenson.

“Fisher confirms that Weigman is QB1,” added Levenson.
It may be early in Weigman’s career, Fisher thinks he sees that extra spark in him that stars often have.
“I always talk about that ‘IT’ factor, right. He’s got it,” Fisher stated, speaking of Weigman earlier this season. “That’s what he does. I mean, like I say, it’s been one game, right. But at the same time he doesn’t practice. He has a feel for the game. Like I said, I’ve been very pleased with him, and knew he was gonna play well. I’ve been proud of him, as far I knew what he was going to do and how he’s going to do it. He’s practiced that way.
“Now it’s just starting to come out more and more and more But he feels the game, understands it.”
While the Aggies looked like they were in for a solid season early on — capturing wins over then-No. 13 Miami and No. 10 Arkansas — times have gotten hard for the Aggies. Texas A&M has lost five straight games, including losses against unranked Mississippi State, South Carolina and Florida.
Jimbo Fisher is hoping Connor Weigman can help the Aggies finish the season strong, and perhaps build towards a brighter future next season.
