Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher revealed starting quarterback Conner Weigman was day-to-day following an injury sustained in Saturday’s win over Auburn.

Weigman suffered an ankle injury but he could return against Arkansas this weekend. But for right now, it’s too early to tell.

But it was not bad according to Fisher and his quarterback is healing up.

“Day to day, he’s  healing up,” Fisher said Monday. “A little sprain, got a little swelling and hopefully it’ll come down. Looks like it will.”

If Weigman can’t go, veteran Max Johnson would step in under center.

“Which I’ve said you have two guys and guys I’ve said in the beginning I felt very confident with and what he did he came in and played excellent football and did a great job and made plays and really led us through the game,” Fisher said.

The play in question Saturday occurred midway through the second quarter, with Texas A&M backed up into its own territory.

Facing a second-and-14 from the 5-yard line, Weigman dropped back to pass and got immediate pressure off the edge. Auburn cornerback Jaylin Simpson got free and dove at Weigman, hitting him up around the thigh before sliding down his leg as he brought him down.

Weigman came up limping but stayed in to finish off the drive, which ended on an incompletion one play later. He quickly headed to the medical tent and then the locker room.

Prior to his exit, Weigman was 8-of-14 passing for 70 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in the game. He’d also run once for a loss of six yards.

Not having Weigman would be a significant blow for the Aggies, who have struggled offensively for the last year or so. Weigman had helped steady the ship in many ways after taking over late in 2022.

In his career, Weigman has thrown for 1,805 yards and 16 touchdowns with only two interceptions.

Johnson is a veteran with plenty of experience though, should he need to step in. He has thrown for 4,504 career yards with 40 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.
