Texas A&M has been playing without starting quarterback Conner Weigman for a few weeks now, having Marcel Reed running the offense. A shoulder injury has been keeping him out and progress has slowly been made. Saturday against Missouri could be when a return finally occurs.

Head coach Mike Elko provided an update on Weigman during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference, saying Weigman is throwing passes. The official availability report will come out later in the day but for now, Elko is listing the quarterback as a game-time decision.

“He’s now throwing,” Elko said. “We’re able to get him out there and functioning a little bit, which is good. He will be a game-time decision this week.”

From a pure depth chart perspective, Weigman has remained at the top. Reed has been listed as the backup but Weigman’s injury has kept him out there. A ton of success has followed for Texas A&M, winning three straight Reed starts, two of which were against SEC foes.

And while Elko lists Weigman as a game-time decision, Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz does not expect to see the quarterback out there. Reed has had so much success for the Aggies, Drinkwitz expects him to be out there, no matter people’s health status.

“I know on their depth chart, it says the other kid is the starting quarterback,” Drinkwitz said. “But that’s just semantics, in my opinion. The guy is 3-0 as the starter and whether he’s listed as questionable or whatever, I don’t see him going back. They’re 3-0, they clearly have a different offensive identity with this guy as the quarterback and they’ve developed an offense that fits around his system. It’s a lot different than the first game of the year.”

Weigman’s performance against Notre Dame is being referenced by Drinktwitz, a game where Texas A&M struggled offensively. Under 250 yards were produced, just 100 of which were from Weigman dropping back to pass. He threw two interceptions as well.
