Conner Weigman on desire to beat Texas: ‘That’s a given, that’s gonna happen’
The Texas A&M–Texas rivalry will be renewed on the gridiron this season, with the Longhorns visiting the Aggies in the former’s inaugural SEC season. And it’s a matchup that’s not lost on the current Texas A&M roster.
Especially quarterback Conner Weigman, who even did a photoshoot with Quinn Ewers, his Longhorn counterpart, for a season preview edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. But he didn’t need to meet Ewers to want to down the Longhorns any more than he already does.
“I mean I’ve always wanted to beat Texas,” Weigman said. “That’s a given. I don’t know if it was more after that, but yeah that’s a given, that’s gonna happen.”
The 2024 game at Kyle Field will be the 119th meeting between the Longhorns and Aggies. Texas leads the all-time series, 76-37-5, and won the most recent meeting between the two in 2011.
And with Texas likely a College Football Playoff contender and the Aggies an outside hopeful, there’s always the possibility the intra-state showdown will carry more than just bragging rights.
But even bragging rights are enough — especially in for the first game in more than a decade.
Weigman shared an update on his health going into the season
Texas a&M has had issues with quarterbacks staying healthy the last two years, so naturally all eyes this fall are on quarterback Weigman as he recovers from a foot injury that ended his 2023 campaign.

Weigman said he’s feeling good as fall camp begins for the Aggies under new coach Mike Elko.
“We’re at 100 right now, but yeah it’s been a long, long grind,” Weigman said on Tuesday. “A long offseason. But we got it done. I mean getting something you love taken away from you like that quickly, it was tough for sure. But just taking it one day at a time and being in there with the training room people, they’re some of the best training room people in the nation and they had my back the whole time. I’m good to go and excited about camp. Let’s get this thing started.”
If he’s healthy, Weigman could be the answer at quarterback for the Aggies. He’s been remarkably productive when healthy.
In two years he has thrown for 1,875 yards with 16 touchdowns against just two interceptions. He’s also the occasional threat to run, having racked up 160 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
But this offseason, what Conner Weigman had already accomplished on the field was far from his mind.
“For a while this offseason was just all about getting my foot right and getting back to 100%, getting back being able to move how I was able to move before I got hurt,” he explained. “And once we got that figured out, just football stuff. Cleaning out my mechanics, footwork stuff, being good with my eyes through my progressions and things like that.”
