Cyrus Allen injury update: Mike Elko shares unfortunate news on Texas A&M WR
The Texas A&M Aggies are going to have their depth tested moving forward at wide receiver this season. As head coach Mike Elko shared, the Aggies have unfortunately lost wide receiver Cyrus Allen for the rest of the season.
Cyrus Allen exited Texas A&M’s win over New Mexico State after he suffered an apparent elbow injury. Now, he’s going to need surgery.
“Unfortunately, Cyrus Allen is going to be out for the season,” Mike Elko said. “He’ll have surgery on his arm, and hopefully we will get him back sooner rather than later. But we won’t have him the rest of the year. So, now it’s kind of turning our attention ahead to a really talented Auburn team.”
Cyrus Allen was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022, according to the One Industry Ranking, initially going to Louisiana Tech out of high school. In December of 2023, Allen would commit to transfer to Texas A&M. Following the 2024 season, he will still have another year of eligibility.
In 10 games for Texas A&M this season, Cyrus Allen has made 18 receptions for 269 yards or 14.9 yards per reception. He also has a touchdown catch, which came against Florida. That makes him third on the team in receptions and receiving yards. However, those numbers are all down from last season with Louisiana Tech where he had 46 receptions for 778 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games.

For Texas A&M, there have been questions to deal with on the offensive side of the ball all season. However, many of those have been about who the quarterback is and not the team’s depth at wide receiver. Still, Texas A&M is just 96th in passing offense, averaging 199.9 passing yards per game.
This comes at a vital time of the season for Texas A&M. The Aggies are one of six SEC teams to have two or fewer losses on the season. Along with rival Texas, the Aggies are one of two SEC schools with one or fewer conference losses. With their game against the Longhorns still coming, Texas A&M is looking to make it to the SEC Championship Game.
Before that, Mike Elko will need to keep his team focused on the task at hand. That means taking care of business against Auburn next week. Auburn has had a difficult season but the Tigers still have plenty of talent and could be dangerous if the Aggies don’t maintain their focus.
