Texas A&M Aggies interim head coach Elijah Robinson has a tough challenge ahead of him. The Aggies athletic department elected to part ways with head coach Jimbo Fisher with just two games left in the season and the team sitting at 6-4.

One of Robinson’s biggest challenges is keeping the team motivated and driven to finish the year off strong. On Tuesday, Texas A&M interim headman revealed a few things that he and the remaining coaching staff have been doing to keep their players motivated.

“Well, we’ve been doing a few different things in team meetings. They had an opportunity to create a playlist of music that plays as they walk into the team meeting; that’s one thing,” said Robinson.

While the music is a nice touch to change the energy of the players entering the meeting rooms, it’s what’s going on in said rooms that Robinson is prioritizing. Robinson and crew have also come up with a unique way to get the players involved in the game plan.

“We have a plan to win that we put up. It’s like a team situation where we show the offensive guys what the defensive plan is and how we think we have to be successful to win,” Robinson said. “And then we show the defensive guys what the offensive plan is; show them how that side of the ball is thinking and what they gotta do to win. And what we did was we created one plan to win based off of both sides of the ball.

“So we’ve been trying to do different things to educate them on complementary football and how we need to play off each other.”

Robinson is also coupling that with a random competitive period during practices. The period is kicked off by a random song, which signals to the players to rally to him and see what the day’s competition is.

Only time will tell whether Robinson’s attempts at keeping the Aggies players motivated are successful or not. But if it is, it will be a huge boost to Texas AM and a potential driver entering the postseason. And not just for the players on the roster. A strong finish to the 2023 season will likely play a huge role in recruiting high school players and players in the transfer portal.
