Elijah Robinson is now on the board in Texas A&M’s record books, as he led the Aggies to a victory in Week 12.

With Jimbo Fisher’s firing lingering over the program, Texas A&M held strong and defeated Abilene Christian by a score of 38-10 on Senior Day. Afterwards, Robinson spoke with ESPN, where he explained how proud he was of the Aggies’ resiliency.

“I’ll tell you, the biggest thing (is) they responded,” Robinson said. “We came out slow, we responded. … They stuck together. … I’m proud of those guys. Our biggest thing is just keep responding.”

Additionally, Robinson elaborated on what it meant to him to lead a program that he loves so much to a win on Saturday.

“The biggest thing is, I always talk about standing on somebody’s shoulders,” Robinson added. “Somebody did something for me to get me to this point. I appreciate everybody that is. I’m just happy to be here, happy to serve this program, serve our team and serve our staff.”

The Aggies will look to finish the regular season with another victory in Week 13, as they’ll travel to Tiger Stadium to face the LSU Tigers. That clash will take place at Noon ET on ESPN, and ESPN Analytics is giving Texas A&M a 35.7% chance at victory at the moment.

Moreover, the Aggies believed it was time to move on from Jimbo Fisher and bite the bullet financially, and Paul Finebaum believes it was the smartest move the Texas A&M brass could have made.

“I believe it was the only move. The program was digressing,” Finebaum told Greg McElroy and Cole Cubelic. “[They were] heading toward a 7-5 season — which is unacceptable. You can mitigate it by talking about the close games against really good teams but quite frankly, at that price tag, it just doesn’t make any difference.

“If you’re not in contention for something, then it’s time to make a change and I appreciate and applaud what Ross [Bjork] did. I think he set the right tone last night and he explained the money and yeah, it’s a big deal but it’s not my money, it’s not your money — it’s their money and they feel pretty comfortable that they have it and it’s worth paying for.”

Aside from the shortened COVID season seeing the Aggies finish the year 9-1 and falling just short of the field of four in the final College Football Playoff rankings — Texas A&M’s decline was rapid and apparent.

The writing on the wall for Fisher’s departure began last season when Texas A&M was upset at home against Appalachian State 17-14. Despite being ranked as high as No. 6 in the preseason poll just two weeks before the loss — the Aggies would finish the season 5-7 only two years removed from a near CFP berth.

Elijah Robinson will be hoping to guide Texas A&M to a strong finish, even if his future with the program remains in doubt.
