Texas A&M wide receiver Evan Stewart dealing with ankle injury vs. Arkansas
With 11:10 to play in the second quarter against Arkansas, Texas A&M wide receiver Evan Stewart got rolled up on and headed to the injury tent. He suffered an ankle injury on the play, and SEC Network’s Alyssa Lang said he was working it out on the sideline to try and get back in.
Stewart caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Max Johnson in the first quarter of the game and suffered the injury in the second quarter while trying to block. It’s unclear if he’ll be able to come back, but Lang said he was doing all he could to return to the field.
However, he ended up going back under the tent for a second time as she finished her update. Later on, Stewart returned to the game.
“We saw Texas A&M star wide receiver Evan Stewart come out after their last offensive drive. I’ve been watching him down here on the sidelines. Ever since he came off the field, he’s been working with these trainers down here,” Lang said. “He got his left ankle re-taped. That’s the injury we’re looking at right now. He’s been jogging up and down the sidelines. You can tell he’s desperate to get back in. But he does still have a little hitch in his giddy-up.”
Evan Stewart has been a key player for Texas A&M this season
Stewart has been a critical piece of the Texas A&M offense this year. He entered Saturday’s game leading the Aggies with 307 receiving yards and three touchdowns as they looked to take a leap under new coordinator Bobby Petrino.

Stewart arrived on campus last year as a highly touted recruit. He was a Five Star Plus+ prospect, meaning he was one of the only players ranked by all four major recruiting media companies as a five star. A Liberty (TX) product, he was the No. 8 overall recruit from the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Texas A&M had to make a change at quarterback after Conner Weigman suffered a possible season-ending injury last week against Auburn. Johnson has now taken the reins and looked strong in the early going, which Jimbo Fisher noted during his in-game interview.
“Really good,” Fisher said of Johnson’s first drive against Arkansas. “Managed the game, got the ball distributed to three or four different guys. Made good reads. He had a little run in there, he got a good play or two. He had good balance, and I thought he controlled the game really well.”
