Evan Stewart sounds off on Jimbo Fisher, NIL situation at Texas A&M: 'Had y'all thinking we was all millionaires'
At Texas A&M, there is an assumption that a lot of NIL money is flowing to the players. However, wide receiver Evan Stewart made it clear that it’s not as much money as many people following the Aggies might think.
In a reply to Hayes Fawcett on Instagram, Stewart sounded off on Jimbo Fisher and the NIL situation at Texas A&M.
“I saw it coming freshman year when I didn’t get paid a dollar from a&m but ‘sliced bread’ had y’all thinking we was all millionaires,” Stewart posted.
In the post that Evan Stewart was replying to showed a quote from Bobby Taylor, an Aggies defensive back. In it, Taylor said that two years ago you couldn’t have told him that Jimbo Fisher would be fired, coaches would be gone, and half the class would transfer. He also asked how that happened.
The reference to ‘sliced bread’ references a source used by a website that Fisher himself called out as it related to NIL.
Evan Stewart was a huge recruit for the Aggies in their excellent class during the 2022 cycle. A five-star recruit, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, and the eighth ranked player overall, there are few young players at Texas A&M who deserve access to NIL more.
In 2022, Stewart was on the SEC All-Freshman Team. In two seasons, he’s played in 18 games, recording 91 receptions for 1,163 yards and six touchdowns. However, injuries have slowed him down, most recently missing time with a leg injury that hampered him later in the season.

Rece Davis: Texas A&M hit a home run with Mike Elko hire
To replace Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M is bringing in Mike Elko, who was previously the team’s defensive coordinator. It’s a hire that Rece Davis loved.
“From Ross Bjork’s standpoint, and from A&M’s standpoint, they hit a home-run here. Honesty compels me to say, I thought the same thing when they hired Jimbo [Fisher], but even though he worked for Jimbo, he’s a completely different guy as we’ve outlined here. I think it is an absolute home run hire, and probably one that is a more creative approach to hire than what appeared to be his initial attempt to hire him,” Davis said.
“I think Mark Stoops is a terrific football coach. But because of the challenges that I’ve outlined earlier, maybe an Elko, who might look at things in different ways because of the varied experiences and also because he has actually been at A&M — which is a not for long — but he was there and that is a different place … He would have he would have made A&M much, much better. But this higher is both both really smart and a home run and from a background fit, perspective and a little outside the box. It’s just enough outside the box to have a chance to be really successful.”
