Five-Star Plus+ DL Shemar Stewart breaks down Texas A&M pledge
Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies finished the drill. The staff in College Station started recruiting Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman Shemar Stewart three years ago, and it paid off.
The 6-foot-5, 270-pound defender out of Opa Locka (Fla.) Monsignor Pace chose Texas A&M over Georgia and Miami.
It all started over the summer for the No. 3 prospect in the On3 Consensus.
“After that first visit to Texas A&M in late July, I knew it could be the school,” Stewart told On3. “The atmosphere felt right. It was a good environment for me.
“The coaching staff had built a good relationship with me, they made me feel comfortable, and that visit definitely had an impact on my recruiting.”
After that visit in July, Stewart visited Texas A&M at least three more times. No staff got to know him better than the one in College Station.
“No recruit wants to go play for a coaching staff he is not comfortable around, and the Texas A&M staff has made me very comfortable. I know a lot of them well and I like them.
“They recruited me hard, they built that relationship with me, and I trust them with my future. That was a big part of why I like them so much.”

Shemar Stewart is part of Texas A&M’s elite recruiting class
Stewart is the seventh five-star in this recruiting class. It entered the day No. 1 in the Team Rankings and it is expected to finish on top.
“At first, all the Texas A&M commitments didn’t mean anything. It did become a factor though.
“I have gotten close with guys like Walter Nolen, Bobby Taylor, Gabe Dindy-Brownlow, Kam Dewberry, and some others, so knowing them, and having those relationships played into this decision too.
“I know this recruiting class has a lot of top guys in it.”
Now, Stewart can put recruiting behind him and look forward to playing along side those guys in the SEC. It was not an easy decision, but he feels good about his decision.
“I made my final weekend about two weeks ago. It was very, very tough to get here, so I am glad it is over.
“It was very hard to tell Miami no, but it is something I had to do. Texas A&M just made me feel comfortable and that is what it came down to.”
