Former LSU quarterback transfers to Texas A&M
Max Johnson is staying in the SEC West, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. The former LSU quarterback committed to Texas A&M out of the transfer portal shortly after his younger brother, Jake, signed with the Aggies on Early Signing Day. Jake is a former LSU commit and one of the top tight ends in the 2022 class.

The elder Johnson entered the portal on Dec. 8 after a year as LSU’s full-time starter. He threw for 2,814 yards, 27 touchdowns and six interceptions. Ironically, he ended his LSU career with a 27-24 win over Texas A&M on Nov. 27 in which he threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson had seven games this season with at least three total touchdowns en route to a 6-6 record in former head coach Ed Orgeron’s final season in Baton Rouge.
Johnson started two games for the Tigers last season as a true freshman and won both contests. He threw for 674 yards with eight total touchdowns and one interception in his inaugural outings as a starter, leading the Tigers back to .500 to finish the season.

The signal-caller is from outside of Athens, Ga., and he is a former four-star recruit and the No. 21 quarterback in the country according to On3. He is the son of former Florida State and Pro Bowl quarterback Brad Johnson, and the sophomore is also the nephew of former Georgia and Miami head coach Mark Richt.
The news comes four days after former Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada entered the transfer portal on Dec. 13. Max Olson of The Athletic had previously said the Aggies were interested in Johnson after the news that Calzada would depart College Station.
