Former Texas A&M defensive lineman Ed Jasper has passed away at the age of 49, according to the Troup Morning Telegraph. Jasper, a sixth-round selection of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1997 NFL Draft, suited-up for nine seasons in the NFL.

In addition to the Eagles, Jasper also played with the Atlanta Falcons and the Oakland Raiders. Over the course of his career, the former Aggies defensive lineman accumulated 250 total tackles, 17.0 sacks and four forced fumbles.

Additionally, Ed Jasper made an impact on the Aggies during his time at Texas A&M. While donning the maroon and white, the defensive lineman earned the prestigious 1996 Aggie Heart Award.

The Aggie Heart Award is presented to a senior who has completed his eligibility and displays the intangibles such as effort, desire, determination, competitiveness, accountability, leadership and courage, according to the school. The Aggie Heart Award winner is the player who extends himself to the fullest every time he dons his football gear, regardless of the situation, be it in practice or a game. The Heart Award is voted upon by the players of the football team.

No cause of death has been announced.

Prior to Texas A&M, Jasper was a star at Troup High School in Texas, earning All-East Texas for three seasons while at the school. Additionally, he was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player while making his name known.

“Ed was a tremendous asset to the Troup community,” Troup athletic director John Eastman said, via the Troup Morning Telegraph. “Ed and his brother Shane (president of the Troup ISD school board) have a tremendous compassion for the school and the community. It is a loss for our school and community. He will be missed.”

As you can see, Ed Jasper made his impact on the lives of thousands. From Troup High School to Texas A&M to the NFL through the remainder of his life, Jasper will be missed. The football world sends prayers to his family.
